Community Choir
This is a choir for adults who want to sing with other people and haven't had a good reason to lately. No audition, no reading music. If you can hum along to the radio, you're qualified. We meet Thursday nights, warm up before anything else (five minutes of humming saves you a hoarse Tuesday, I promise), and learn our parts by section so nobody's ever hanging out there alone. I'll teach by ear and by pattern, break the hard spots into small chunks, and tell you the why behind all of it. By the end of the session we put on a small performance together. You'll leave knowing your part cold, breathing better, and blending with the folks next to you.
What you'll learn
- Warm up your voice with sirens and lip trills
- Hold your part while another voice crosses yours
- Learn notes by ear before reading any paper
- Sing with confident diction, dynamics, and phrasing
- Blend your voice into a section without straining
Lessons
- Getting in the Room
We meet, we make some noise together, and we figure out where your voice sits before we ask it to do anything hard.
- Warming Up for Real
Warm-ups aren't stalling, they're the difference between a good Thursday and a hoarse Tuesday, so we spend real time here.
- Learning Your Part by Ear
No sheet music required, I'll teach the notes by pattern and repetition until they live in your ears.
- Singing Together
Now the sections meet and we work on the thing most choirs get backwards, which is blend over volume.
- Polishing the Piece
We take what we've got and clean it up, phrase by phrase, until it sounds like we meant it.
- The Performance
A small end-of-session performance, nerves and all, and how we get there in one piece.
