Introductions! Class starts May 5

Marilyn BolanderInstructorApr 8, 9:59 PM

Well hello everybody, glad you're here. Week one we're not touching a pattern yet, just chain stitch and single crochet until your hands stop fighting you, probably with some ugly acrylic on purpose so nobody's precious about it. Go ahead and introduce yourself below, tell me your name and why you signed up. Bored hands, gift for a grandbaby, therapist told you to, I've heard it all and none of it scares me. See you May 5th.

Margie OlsenApr 8, 10:02 PM

Margie Olsen here, signed up because I have a granddaughter due in August and every crocheted baby blanket I've seen online looks better than what I could produce right now! No therapist involved, just pride. Ugly acrylic sounds correct, actually. See everyone the 5th.

Margie, August will come faster than you think, but eight weeks is plenty of time to go from trapezoid-scarf-level to a blanket you're not embarrassed by. Mine came out shaped like a mistake my first try and I wore it anyway!

Sarah, bored hands is the best reason there is, I've built a whole life on it!

See you both the 5th.

April, funny you say that, quilters usually make my best students, you already know how to follow a rule even when you don't want to!! Sarah, bring the competitive spirit, just aim it at the yarn, not the lady next to you. See you both the 5th.

Kellie PetersonApr 22, 9:28 AM

marilyn a mistake you wore anyway is basically my whole wardrobe philosophy already ๐Ÿ˜… april same, i can follow a recipe or a pattern fine, it's the "just wing it" projects that get me. bringing my ugly acrylic and low expectations. see you the 5th โค๏ธ ๐ŸŽ‰

Vickie BaileyMay 1, 8:17 AM

Kellie, "low expectations" is the way to go into any new craft ๐Ÿ˜Š I'm self-taught continental crochet from decades ago and still learning things week one covers. See you the 5th ๐ŸŒž

vickie decades of continental and still learning week one, bless, that makes me feel so much better ๐Ÿ˜…โค๏ธ โค๏ธ

Lisa ChristiansenMay 6, 11:12 AM

Vickie, self taught for decades and still showing up for week one is sooo relatable, I feel like I "know" crochet but my hands disagree ๐Ÿ™ˆโค๏ธ see you the 5th!

Vickie BaileyMay 11, 9:26 PM

Lisa, that's exactly it, my hands "know" continental but nobody ever corrected my tension, so I'm hoping Marilyn fixes thirty years of bad habits ๐Ÿ˜Š See you the 5th! ๐ŸŒž

Marilyn BolanderInstructorMay 13, 8:58 AM

Vickie, thirty years of bad habits is nothing, I've been unlearning things since the Clinton administration! Tension is fixable, it's just muscle memory arguing with you. Bring your continental hooks Wednesday and I'll take a look, no promises I won't just tell you it's fine and move on. Kellie, Lisa, same goes for you two! See you all the 5th.

Week 2 update from the bored hands department, they're officially busy hands now. The colset pile hasn't grown either, which is a win.

Cathy DraperMay 16, 8:51 AM

Carly, "unfinished proof" made me laugh. Bless. I'm on week two now, still fighting the single crochet myself ๐ŸŒท ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒท

Kellie PetersonMay 23, 10:35 AM

cathy, week two and still fighting? bless ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ˜…

Jamie LemmonMay 25, 8:46 AM

kellie ๐Ÿ˜‚ give cathy grace, i'm on week 3 and still counting stitches out loud like a crazy person ๐Ÿ’›

โ™ก 2
Marilyn BolanderInstructorMay 25, 1:39 PM

Kellie, that's fair teasing but Cathy's right on schedule, week two is when the yarn still feels like it's got a mind of its own. Jamie counting out loud in week three is normal too, I still do it on lace stitches. Nobody's behind here. See you all Wednesday, we'll finally crack open a pattern.
