Hook and yarn recommendations for week 1?

Getting ready for our first class and wondering what size hook everyone is starting with. Hobby Lobby has sooo many options I froze up a little 😊 Any yarn brand suggestions for a true beginner?

Vickie, we're week 3 now, reading patterns, but for what it's worth a plain H hook and worsted weight is all I used. No need to overthink the yarn aisle.

Vickie, Margie and April already gave you the real answer, so I'll just second it. H hook, worsted weight, any brand, don't stand in that aisle overthinking it like it's a life decision! Save the agonizing for week 5 when we're ripping out mistakes on purpose. That's the actual hard part.
