Where to find gochugaru before Tuesday's kimchi class?

Dianna ChanMay 31, 11:34 AM

Does anyone know if Macey's carries gochugaru, or do I need to make a Costco run instead? Caroline said to bring patience, but I would also like to bring the correct pepper flakes if at all possible. No worries at all if not.

Macey's has had it for me the last few times..... its in the international aisle by the rest of the asian stuff. small bag but its enough for one batch of kimchi for sure

Tamara, ha, you're right, the timing on this thread is a little funny now... but good intel for whenever you kimchi again. missing the Tuesday chaos already, honestly.

late but same, my batch was fine not "class" fine either

Caroline SonInstructorAug 3, 1:44 AM

Erik, Michael, "fine not class fine" made me laugh out loud at my own kitchen counter. that's the mom-standing-behind-you effect, I think. genuinely miss the Tuesday chaos. fingers crossed for a fall session

Caroline, the "mom standing behind you" line is so true 😂 my kimchi was fine, not class fine either

Joyce, I think that's just the rule of kimchi now, it's fine until you're standing next to seven other people all burping jars at the same time and somehow it tastes better... six weeks and Tuesdays still feel weird without all of you and your gochugaru questions in my inbox. i'm still making a batch every week at home, quieter kitchen, less good kimchi. fingers crossed hard for a fall session so we can get back to "class fine."

Caroline, I'll second that, quieter kitchen here too. jessica already asked when the fall session is. hoping it happens.

Caroline SonInstructorSep 12, 5:29 AM

Erik, tell Jessica she's not alone, I ask myself the same thing every Tuesday around 6:30 when I catch myself glancing at the clock out of habit. quieter kitchen over here too, and my gochugaru jar is juts sitting there judging me. nothing confirmed yet, but I'm hoping just as hard as you are
