Signing up for Bulgogi & Beyond May 5th

Kristy JorgensenMay 5, 1:30 AM

Mark and I used to go get KOREAN BBQ every so often before it closed down, so when I saw THIS class I signed right up. Question for whoever's taught before, do we need to bring our own knife or does the CHURCH kitchen have decent ones?? Excited but nervous, oh my heck.

Kristy JorgensenMay 5, 10:49 PM

Update on my own question, I called and they said bring a paring knife just in case but the kitchen set is decent. Also the instructor mentioned rinsing rice until the water RUNS clear, which I have SKIPPED for years. Guess I'll be humbled Tuesday.

Kristy, I'd bring your own just in case... Church knives are usually dull from years of butter and bread! Excited for this one too...

Kristy and Sheila, bring a paring knife either way, Sheila's right about church knives after enough banana bread duty! And Kristy, don't feel humbled, feel excited, thats the fun part Tuesday. Rinsing until celar matters more than people think, it's washing off surface starch so your rice cooks up separate instead of gluey! I skipped it for years too until my mom caught me. We'll do it together at the sinks. See you both Tuesday.

Caroline, just got back from California and saw this, we bulk-prep bulgogi at our house so I'm bringing my own knife AND my A-game Tuesday.

Kristy JorgensenMay 14, 8:07 AM

Krista, "bulk-prep bulgogi" sounds dangerous in the best way, oh my heck. Bring EXTRA marinade recipe if you've got one, I collect those on INDEX cards. Mark's already asking if Tuesday's the "meat class." Bringing my paring knife AND my patience THIS time.

Dianna ChanMay 16, 3:05 AM

Kristy, "bring your patience THIS time" made me laugh out loud. I'll bring a knife too, no worries at all. See you Tuesday.

Kristy and Dianna, yes to Tuesday being the "meat class," tell Mark he's right!! Kristy, bring the index cards, I'll give you my mom's ratio to add to the stack.

Caroline, that rice rinsing tip is going straight in my notebook. Naomi's gonna think I'm a genius Tuesday night.

Baylee DavisJun 2, 10:24 PM

alisha the rice rinsing tip changed my dinner rotation honestly. bringing my own knife too, kitchen ones are fine but mine's sharper...

Baylee, same, my knife stays sharp because Dustin won't let anyone else touch the sharpener. Bringing it Tuesday. Gochujang week, can't wait.

Alisha and Baylee, love that you're both bringing your own, honestly the church knives are fine but a sharp one makes the onions so much easier. Kristy, no pressure at all, we've got extras. Tuesday's the whole dinner-on-the-table push, gochujang, rice timing, all of it landing on your plate by 6:15!! See you all there.

Baylee DavisJun 13, 11:18 PM

caroline 6:15 sounds ambitious with rice timing and gochujang sauce both happening at once but i believe it..... liam and brody have been asking why dinner smells like "the good class" nights lately

Bailey MadsenJun 23, 10:16 PM

baylee the rice thing is real, made a rice heavy dish last week and the kids actually cheered 😭 kind of lost without tuesday classes now, chaos continues at home

2
Kristy JorgensenJun 25, 10:30 PM

Bailey, kids CHEERING for rice is a real accomplishment, don't let anyone tell you different. Still practicing the clear-water rinse Caroline taught us. Missing our Tuesdays. Gochujang or bust at home!

3
Caroline SonInstructorJun 28, 1:50 AM

Kristy, a paring knife will do you fine for gochujang at home, dont overthink it! And that clear-water rinse getting practiced is exactly the muscle memory I wanted to send you all home with! Gochujang or bust indeed!
