The overnight print rule, and why
Don't run a long print unattended overnight. I did it once, a 9 hour job, went to bed, got up for my run and found nine hours of spaghetti on the bed because the model came loose two hours in. It's not really the fire risk lecture, though that's real too, it's that you'll wake up to a mess with no way to stop it. Watch your first layer, then check in.
So week 3 in my 3D printing 101 class and I lost a 9 hr print to a loose belt... felt that one in my soul lol. first layer or bust for me now, i check it before i walk away. keeping my prints small till i trust it again
The overnight print rule is one of those things everyone follows without ever asking why it exists, which is kind of the whole problem with how we do stuff sometimes lol... like if the reasoning was good someone would be able to just say it plainly instead of "thats just the policy." i think its mostly a liability thing dressed up as a courtesy thing. and if thats true we should just say that instead of pretending its about quality control or whatever
not trying to start anything feels like a rule that outlived its reason and nobody wants to be the one to check :c
My two cents on this one. i had the actual opposite experience... i printed something same-day once because I was in a rush and it came out warped, colors were off, whole thing looked amateur compared to when I let it sit overnight. I dont think its a liability thing dressed up, I think theres a real quality reason buried in their even if nobody explains it well. like the courtesy/quality reasoning might BE the real reason and were all just assmuing its fake because no ones bothered to say it plainly.
Not saying the communication around it is good lol, thats fair. but the rule itself... i think it actually does something.
so full disclosure this isnt even my thread but i gotta jump in because ive thought about this way more than a normal person should lol i think both of yall are kind of right and thats the annoying part. like i dont doubt the warped/color thing happened, that sounds real, but IMO thats a "sometimes" reason not an "always" reason, and the rule gets applied like its always. thats the disconnect for me. if it was about letting stuff cure or settle or whatever the chemistry is, someone couldve just said "hey this specific type of job needs X hours" instead of blanket overnight for everything regardless of what it is
so ya i'll concede maybe theres a a real technical reason buried under there somewhere, sure, i believe you that it exists for some jobs. but i still think the reason the rule never gets explained

Small way is the right way to learn it. First layer paranoia is the whole skill, that's the two minutes that tells you whether the next nine hours are worth your sleep. I still crouch down and watch the nozzle lay that first pass every single time, kit printer or not. Cheap habit, saves you a shelf full of warped coasters nobody asked for.
we don't leave the oven unattended either. same energy honestly 😭 rip your nine hours
the oven doesn't need a fire extinguisher tho 😂
lol true but my oven has definitely almost started a grease fire so idk if it's that different 🙈 point taken tho, spaghetti bed still worse
