Signing up for 3D Printing 101 - already own a printer lol
Figured I'd take the class even though I already have a printer, wanna actually finish something for once ๐ anyone know if May 5 is in person or online? Thanks, Nathan
Nathan literally same, MINE'S BEEN collecting dust since last year lol. I'd sign up just to have someone force me to finish a PROJECT honestly.
Isaiah that's exactly the trap ๐ I've got mine running steady now but it took starting three separate garden bed projects (only finished one lol) to learn I needed actual deadlines. class'll probably do you good ๐
Nathan, May 5 is in person, 380 S location. Bring your printer's quirks and we'll troubleshoot live.
Braxton's onto something, deadlines fix the "started three things, finished none" problem. My first print sat half-failed on a shelf for weeks before I logged what went wrong and just finished it.
Oh perfect, in person's way better for this stuff anyway. 380 S, got it ๐ Bring my printer's quirks, ha, mine's got plenty. It's a Highland-table-saw situation over here, more toys than finished stuff lol. Excited to actually walk out with something done for once!! Thanks, Nathan ๐ฅ
Nathan the "more toys than finished STUFF" thing is basically my whole garage lol. Bring the quirks though, seriously! Half the value of in person is watching someone else's printer fail in real time and realizing it's not just you ๐ mine used to skip layers randomly, turned out to be a loose belt the whole time. probably something that simple with yours to ๐ค ๐ค๐ฅ
loose belt as the villain the whole time ๐ classic. mine was a bent rod, felt so dumb once i found it. for sure for sure bring the quirks Nathan
Kyle's right, it's usually something dumb. Mine wasn't even a belt, my first print looked like a melted candleship because the bed wasn't level. Still keep it on my shelf. Nathan, bring the printer Thursday and we'll find your loose belt live.
Oh my heck, "melted candleship" ๐ Jacob that's basically my week 2 bed leveling saga right there. Bring popcorn Thursday ~boyd
Boyd the "bring popcorn" comment got me ๐ honestly week 3 filament stuff has already saved me some grief, humidity was wrecking my adhesion more than I realized. nathan bring the printer for sure, live troubleshooting is half the reason I signed up. jacob's melted candleship shelf trohpy is the real MVP though ๐ฅ๐
Boyd, popcorn's fair. Braxton, glad the humidity thing clicked, that one trips up more people than loose belts do. Nathan, Thursday, bring the printer, we'll diagnose it live.
melted candleship permanently lodged in my brain now ๐ญ slicing week already saved my hydration mount print, cura settings were the move โจโจ
week 5 already?? this class flew
Brian, right? Feels like week 1 was yestedray and we were all just staring at a bed level knob like it owed us money. Slicer profile stuff this week actually made sense though! First print that didn't look like a candleship casualty. Progress, bless.
Brian, I know, it does that every session. Feels like we just leveled beds last week and now we're into first prints. Good news is week 5 is where it clicks for most people, you've already got the boring failures out of your system. Bring whatever you're working on Thursday, we'll check bed adhesion and slicer settings live. Nathan's bringing his printer too, so it'll be a real diagnostic night, not just slides.
andrew "staring at a bed level knob like it owed us money" is sending me ๐ญ heck yes that's exactly the vibe week 1 had
week 6 troubleshooting timing is perfect for me honestly, my filament storage box lid is still 2mm too tight lol, need to add clearance and reprint before it drives me nuts again. rice trick saved that spool though, still feels like a small win โจ see everyone thursday ๐ซ
Justin, 2mm tight on a lid is almost always the printer's own tolerance stacking up, not your design. Add 0.3-0.4mm clearance per side and reprint just the lid before Thursday if you can. Bring both versions, good side by side for the group to see.
